Michael Whelan is an attorney in Tulsa specializing in small business formation and 501c3 creation. Michael brings a collaborative approach to everything that he does. Whether working with clients or with other democratic operatives, he believes that we can always accomplish more working together than apart. While working on a project, everything he does is with the solution in mind.
Michael’s experience is varied. Having grown up all over North America in cities like Toronto, St. Louis, New Orleans and Houston, his unique perspective lends itself to working with a wide variety of people.
He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2004 with a degree in Arts Management focusing on advertising and marketing. He received his legal education at the University of Tulsa - College of Law, and completed his Juris Doctorate in 2009. While at TU Law Michael created and served as the founding president of the Democratic Law Society a student organization dedicated to promoting democratic ideal in the legal community. He also served as President of The Board of Advocates, was an editor for the Energy Law Journal, a Student Bar Association Delegate (academic affairs chairman) and served on the University’s long range planning committee. Upon graduation from TU Law Michael received a certificate in Public Policy, was awarded the Board of Advocates Certificate of Service Award, and was honored with the Order of Barristers.
Michael has worked for political candidates helping with fundraising solutions, ethical compliance issues and developing relationships with donors and supporters. He served as a finance director for the Edmondson for Governor campaign focusing on efforts in the eastern half of Oklahoma. Additionally, he worked as a fundraising consultant to the Priest for Attorney General campaign and continues to help candidates across Tulsa County and the State. This experience gave Michael the opportunity to work closely with many of Tulsa’s finest democrats, philanthropists and business owners. During his political work he learned that above all, if you treat others well, they will do the same.
Michael serves as executive director and Vice Chairman for the Tulsa County Democratic Party. He has served as president and coordinator of the Tulsa County Democratic Luncheon Club, an organization that meets every second Friday of the month to feature prominent democratic speakers and to foster fellowship, friendship and community building for the Tulsa County Democratic set.
Michael lives in midtown Tulsa with his wife Lori and three children, Brennan, Layla and Amelia.
