We Support Our Postal Workers!

USPS/PUBLIC INPUT HEARING

The Postal Service is doing a study to close the Tulsa Mail Processing Center. We, the workers of the National Postal Mailhandlers Union and the American Postal Workers Union, want to make sure the public is aware of the changes proposed by the Postal Service and the impact it will have on the Tulsa Community and the way you conduct business.

• The proposed changes can only happen if the Postal Service changes the delivery standards of First Class mail. Local mail that presently has next-day delivery will be transported to Oklahoma City for sorting and in the future will
take 2-3 days for delivery. This is in spite of a proposed rate increase. Next- day service under the new standards will have to be upgraded to a much higher premium service.

• Closing the Tulsa Mail Processing Center will cause the loss of 573 Tulsa jobs. That equals a loss of over $20 million in annual payroll – payroll that is put back into the local economy in the form of housing sales, car sales, property taxes and support to local businesses, schools and infrastructure.

• Postal workers are involved in their local communities. They are your fam- ily, your friends, your neighbors. They volunteer their time and donate money to area churches, charities, schools and sports. They serve their country – the Postal Service is the largest civilian employer of veterans in the nation. A high percentage of the workers at the Tulsa Processing Center have worked there for over 15 years, bringing stability to the facility and the community.

There will be a Public Hearing to discuss the Postal Service’s proposal to move mail processing operations to Oklahoma City.

This meeting will be held:

December 1, 2011 @ 6:30 pm

Tulsa Technology Career Service Center Auditorium 600

3420 S Memorial Drive

Tulsa OK 74145

THIS IS A PUBLIC INPUT HEARING. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO ATTEND AND HEAR THE PROPOSED CHANGES AND VOICE YOUR CONCERNS. THE POSTAL SERVICE WILL TAKE PUBLIC COMMENTS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN MAKING THE FINAL DECISION AS TO THE FATE OF THE TULSA MAIL PROCESSING CENTER.
